The Challenge
Weddings are really like a final exam for photographers. There are the technical considerations - mixed light sources, angles, depth of field, etc. - that all portrait photographers should know. Then there are protocol issues during the ceremony. Where can I shoot? Can I use a flash? Pressure to get the shot. The entrance. The kiss. The exit. The bouquet toss. The dance. The list goes on.
Just as in sports, you only get one chance and they move on to the next play. Logistics. Back-up cameras. Back-up lights. Extra batteries. Extra shooters. Extra everything. You'll need a Plan B. And this is all happening in real time. People anxious to get on with the ceremony, or get to the reception. Not a lot of time for do-overs or trial and error. And a real disaster awaits if something happens you're not ready for. Ready to give that bargain photographer a try?
The Reward
I know a lot of very good professional photographers that don't do weddings. At any price. They just don't want the headaches.
I love my work. I love nailing the shot; finding the perfect blend of art and action. That's my reward - that I'm able to make photographs that make you happy.
As I mentioned, I only accept one wedding per month because of the time and effort required to do it right. Check for availability and book early.
