I got to see my new friend Joe Doyle at the Bluebird Cafe. Joe’s the one in the middle of the picture - you can clearly see the back of his head. That’s the trouble with shooting people in the round; unless you have an aerial viewpoint, somebody is going to be looking the other way. When I first met Joe a week or so earlier, he was telling me about this upcoming show, and he was really excited. Not so much for himself, as Joe does far more writing than entertaining. Joe was excited about this little lady pictured above to his left. Her name is Suite Caroline, and she hails from the Orlando area. Joe said he first met her when she was 10, and was blown away by her talent then. He told me she had one song with 5 minor chords in it. Pretty neat trick to be able to write, play, and sing like that at ten. Now that she’s 12 (turned 13 the week of the show), there’s going to be a whole lot of people following her, (including Reba, in the white sweater.)

Rarely more than one or two a year, and usually friends or neighbors. I’m glad I was able to shoot this one for my new friends the Martins. Seems like little things like floods can make closer friends out of distant neighbors. Here are a few pics.

This fabulous vacation at the Pelican Resort was with our good friends Gary and Armelle. Their generosity was just the ticket for these two flood victims. Did I mention we were flood victims? We had no thoughts of any of that this week, as we turned off our cell phones and locked them in the safe. Thanks guys, for a beautiful time.

It was one of 3 out of 8 sections which did not flood. Thankful for that. I’m getting used to this 40th reunion thing, as I shot mine last year. Thanks again to Melanie and Ellen. Here are some more shots from the evening.

This has been a tough enough month without realizing you are now a year older. That’s why I broke a long-standing rule and bought my wife some jewelry for her birthday this year. My experience with jewelry and Karen is that it has a better than even chance of being lost, misplaced, or stolen. But my recent experience with this flood has taught me that nothing (not even diamonds) is forever. Carpe Diem, live long and prosper, etc., etc.,
